Hamilton Wallpaper Removal

Wallpaper had its moment in New Zealand homes for decades, and a lot of Hamilton's older villas and character homes still carry the evidence, sometimes several layers of it from different eras. Homeowners often leave it be because stripping wallpaper properly is messy, slow, and easy to get wrong without the right approach. Pull at it the wrong way and you can tear the plaster or gib underneath, which just creates more work. It's one of those jobs that looks simple until you're a metre into a wall and realise there's another two layers underneath the one you started on.

Stripping the paper is really only half the job. Once it's off, the wall underneath usually needs some attention — old adhesive marks, patchy plaster, or small areas of damage from the paper itself. We patch and sand these back so the surface is properly flat and even before any paint goes on. Skip this step and you'll often see old seams, faint outlines, or bubbling telegraph straight through your new paint within a few months, which defeats the purpose of stripping the paper in the first place.
